I often notice my students use words incorrectly. They keep on using the common confused and misused words. They are sometimes confused of the words which have closer spelling and same pronunciation as well. Thus, making it hard for me to understand them and lead them to embarrassing mistakes. It’s okay if they commit mistakes in my class because I can immediately correct them. But what if they’re out of the four- corner classroom and they’re with other people?
Proper enunciation of words of words and right choice of words to use is really important to have a good conversation. Communicating with other people is more meaningful if the speakers are able to use words/expressions correctly. Non-English speakers do common mistakes.
Below are some Confused and Misused Words:
- adapt-to change/modify
- adopt- take from someone’s own
- aural- relating to sense of hearing
- oral-relating to mouth/speaking
- can- know how
- may- have permission to
- loose- not tight
- lose- misplaced/ fail to win

Yesterday, we didn’t call it as an official class. We reported to the school and we were glad that the students came and attended the sessions. Almost all of them were tired due to last night’s party. So since my students brought their laptops and portable movie players we agreed to watch an English movie. The movie title is ” FREQUENCY“. Watching such movies is helpful to them. Since they’re learning English, it a good practice to their listening skills and comprehension. The stars of the said movie are Dennis Quaid, James Caviezel, Noah Emmerich, Elizabeth Mitchell, Shawn Doylr, Jordan Bridge, etc.

Today we are celebrating the 2nd year anniversary of the language institute where I am currently working. I went home by 11 pm. I left the party with some of co-teachers. I felt sleepy and I have to go home since tomorrow we’re still going to have our class.
The party started at 6 o’clock. There was enough food and drinks for everybody. I had fun eating, drinking and dancing with my students, fellow teachers and administrative staffs as well of the school. The night was filled with laughters and chats. I am new to the learning institute but the people were warm to me. I am thankful that they made me feel that I belong to the group!
I did enjoy the short moment with them. I saw the great and crazy moves of the people at the dance fllor!!!!jajajajajajaja “Twas a cool and funny night because I don’t have any idea how great the teachers and students are in grooving and pumping with the music!!
It rained hard but it didn’t ruined the celebration! The party was still going. During the day, I and my fellow teachers were happy to one of our colleagues because his student who is going home gave him an electric fan.Her student Carol was very sweet to him. She realized the hardships of his teacher when they were having their classes. Teacher Anre’s cubicle gets insufficient blow from the air condition unit and he’s near the window.
Before the student went to the are of celebration they did first an exchange gifts. Each student has his/her manito ( guy receiver) /manita ( lady receiver). It was the moment of revelation because everyday they were free to give anything to their manito’s and manita’s like food and drinks.

Today’s experience with my students is far better than yesterdays. Yesterday I got headache! When I reached home, I ate a lot because I wanna pour out my stress brought by my students.I am grateful and thankful that they’re better now. So am I. Yesterday was our first meeting. I understand that my students are doing some adjustments since I’m their new group mentor. So do I. I want to have a good relationship with my students so I can teach them well and effectively.
I’m trying my best to understand them the way they speak English. I’m not used to it and some of them are having a difficulty in expressing their ideas and what they feel towards something with the use of English language!
It’s indeed important to understand the part to be able to fully absorb the whole. I remembered my college professor saying this to us while she was having her class. Now, I understand what she meant when I was with my students. She was right.
Tomorrow one of the groups decided to discuss about Japan-Korea Relationship. So I guess there’s a need for me to look for some articles about ” Korea-Japan World Cup” or the 2002 FIFA World Cup. This event somehow tells/shows the relationship of these 2 Asian countries.

Asian Pacific Math Olympiad or AMPO caters the mathematically-gifted students to compete with each other for the enhancement of their analytical and mathematical abilities. A Filipino Math Wizard, Tobit James Narciso ranked 3rd place in 20th Asian Pacific Math Olympiad!O I am proud of him!Another Filipino teen excelled in the field of Science and Technology. Among 28 countries which participated during the activity, Philippines ranked 17th.A Certificate of Recognition was given to him by the Department of Science and Technology or DOST.
In 2007, Narciso was one of the contestants in 48th International Mathematical Olympiad. Joining him were Ian June Garces (Leader), Timothy Robin Teng (Deputy Leader) and fellow contestants Carlo Francisco Adajar, Jonathan Aldric Chua, Jeffrey Kenneth Go, Stephanie Anne Oliveros, and Darren Mendell Sy.
In a not so technologically advance country like the Philippines, we really have to work out more with the advancement in teaching Math and Science Class. Along with English, Filipino students can become far better compared to any countries who belong to the 3rd World if these areas are giving prior attention and consideration.
I still believe that good foundation in 3 major subjects namely; English, Math and Science will definitely help the country achieve sustainable development. Thus, educate people and provide jobs/opportunities for its constituents.
