Flashcards

Children usually are excited to learn for the day when a teacher employs new strategy and approach. You can get their attention if they see new things from their mentor. I agree with it because 23ws3qI’d been like that before when I was still a learner.

For two days I used flashcards in introducing a new lesson to learn. It isn’t the ordinary ones because it’s sliding to make it more interactive. Its sliding effect makes the learning more enjoyable and interesting for the kids rather than using the usual flashcards.

Learners are able to make inferences with the pictures they see. The corresponding words will be then revealed later after the learners give their answers or guesses. Phonetic skills and writing skills are also exercised since this teaching material is visual.

The following are the good things brought by using flashcards:

  • enhances vocabulary
  • familiarity of words/word recognition
  • teacher correct spelling
  • exercises brain memory
  • practices oral ability

Make your own flashcards online and apply it in your classroom.

Good choice of materials is useless if not employed with good strategy and proper approach.

Untraditional Way of Teaching

Laptop Computers are very important to businessmen. So with educators. Traditional way of teaching has gone. The new has come. Teaching methods is not just up to the use of board and chalk, of pen and white board! Power point presentation is one of the best type of applying the lesson guides. Nowadays, the use of this technology is rampant. During my college days we are reminded not to put limitation with regards to our teaching methods and materials.

I am a teacher and I want to give my best to my learners. Teaching is a very challenging task. Teacher’s creativity is employed! At this moment I’m imagining myself bringing with me a purple laptop bag/case. I love this color very much! The use of scanners is also a great help. If you’re not that good in drawing, you can scan an image and print a copy of this.I’m lucky because we bought one years ago. In nursery and elementary level, pictures matter to them. They’ll be bored if you’re talking in front of them and they can’t see any illustrations. We really have to catch their attention. The attention span of children is very short so we are challenge to think and apply the best technique in presenting our lesson.

A good teacher makes use of available materials to make his class participate and learn to the most.

Crossword Puzzles

Posted on September 4th, 2008 in Stategies and Methodology by jazzie || No Comment

This morning I was able to apply the crossword puzzle as a comprehension check after discussing the topic of the day.I can hardly remember when was the last time that I had it. In the past I’m fond of answering some after I read a newspaper or if there’s a special book which contains crossword puzzles only. While we were checking I keep on thinking when did I last took it!jajajajaja LOL. Well giving it to your students is one way of keeping their cognitive skills to function. They’ll think that they’re also playing but the fact is they’re taking a seatwork!

Crossword puzzle allow learners to connect ideas, comprehend, enhance vocabulary skills and practice their pace in learning. Through it, they’re challenge to think critically and systematically to get the right answer. Well I observe that there are students who easily give up when they found no answers to it.If this will happen in a classroom environment the teacher should apply another strategy for these set of learners. This is time when group activity is applicable.  On the other hand, those who start answering it are the ones who are more interested and challenge.

ROCKed-Alternative

This morning I saw a very interesting topic that was featured in a morning show. The said segment talked about the ROCKed or Rock Education. I guess this is a combination of Rock Music and Education. ROCKed is an organization which serves as an alternative way of teaching the young ones and teenagers. They can participate in national issues through expressing their thoughts with the help of music. They can create lyrics that contains their stands. It is very apparent that teens love the rock ‘n roll so its a perfect one for them. They love music plus they can participate in latest issues in a nice and safe way.

Reading Readiness

Posted on March 29th, 2008 in Stategies and Methodology by jazzie || No Comment

I’m an elementary teacher and I already had the experience to teach graders in all levels when we had our On-the-job (OJT) training. And I found the very basic that a child has to learn before proceeding to a new acquisition of learning. It is important that a child has to be ready to learn. Ready to read and understand the context. Imagine this: How can a child
