Davao School and Rehabilitation Center for Visually Impaired is formerly known as Davao School for the Blind and Development Center or DSBRC.It’s a residential school located in Bago Aplaya, Talomo Davao City, Philippines. It was established on August 14, 1981 and is recognized by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports or DECS. In addition, it caters residents’ education and rehabilitation needs for school age children.

The school provides free Elementary Education including Educational materials, free board and lodging and other necessities, the school can afford.Below is the Center’s Mission and Goal.

Vision

There should be self-reliance, self-propagating and self-sustaining institution that serve as a vehicle towards the total development of the visually impaired persons.

I have seen people with disabilities who are succesful in their lives.They became responsible and succesful citizens in the society. If you notice, there are instances when physically and mentally challenged people have better living than those abled ones! If that’s the case, disabilities is not a hindrance. It’s up to people if they want to make the best out of their life.

In my own experience, my mom exposed us to books at early stage. We learned to love reading at young age because my mom is a reader. There was once that she told me that she wants to take a rest. But when I entered their room I found her reading a book. I was surprised because I thought that she’s sleeping!

How Children Learn to Read

Why not follow these good steps?

1. Parents should choose books with simple concepts to encourage children to read (e.g shapes, color, texture, size etc)
2. When reading, point pictures and names. Allow your children to do the same.
3. Make your home a book-rich environment. Teach them to love books.
4. In choosing books to read, let the interest of your children be their choices (e.g. planets, animals, objects, sports, games, cartoon characters, Disney characters etc)
5. For young and beginners of reading, picture books are perfect for the.
6. Children can make their own choice but parents should be the one to decide that’s according to the level of child’s comprehension.
7. Help your children become successful reader by talking, listening and reading together. That’s what we call as interactive reading.

Whenever I hear the words Jon Queen I can think of the writers named Jon and the stories of remarkable queens in our history! To some people things that happened in the past are senseless. But for me, it’s never pointless. I still believe that things that happened in the past have something to do in our present I appreciate artifacts, paintings, and books that tells us what were the remarkable events in the past.

I simply love books. They’re my treasure too. Without them I can never be this way. Reference materials that are available for us contribute to the knowledge that we have right now in which we enjoy a better life.

I just got home. I’m kinda tired because I wasn’t able to take a nap this afternoon. Well it’s still fine. I had a great Sunday! I went to church with my family, we had our lunch at the mall, I saw a movie together with mom and special someone, got some grocery items and went back home. Last week my sisters watched the latest Philippine movie on big screen- My Only U. Since I didn’t go out with them my mom treated us!

I feel good after hearing the Sunday sermon. It made me feel refresh again. Today’s message reminds us to understand better the true meaning of “God’s grace“.

I love the feeling when we are together. A while ago we were at the dining table eating an ice cream. It’s so hot right now in the Philippines and so eating some will make us somehow resists heat!

I didn’t go back to our family dentist because she’s not an orthodontist. My mom and sisters   are still seeing her for their dental problems. But in my case, I need to see a good orthodontist who can take care of my teeth. As a teacher, it’s important to have a strong, white and presentable one. Talking is the nature of our work so it’s important to have it.

Students specially young learners are considered curious individuals. They can easily notice your clothes, your shoes, your hair, your face etc. Elementary pupils observe things more often. They notice almost everything they see.

Prophylaxis or general cleaning is needed by us. To maintain healthy teeth and gum we should take care of it. Follow these steps to have a healthy smile.

1. Brush your teeth every after meal.
2. Use toothpaste with high fluoride and rich in calcium.
3. Apply proper brushing of teeth and gum.
4. Use dental floss to clean the spaces between the out teeth.
5. Use toothbrush that won’t hurt you teeth and gum.
6. Change your toothbrush every 3 months.
7. Visit or see your dentist every 6 months.

Learners will feel comfortable with their teacher if they see that their mentor is showing them a smile. When a teacher smiles children feel that they’re valued. Learning process is affected if there’s no good rapport between the teacher and learners.
