Keeping the Spirit High

My daily experiences at English Academy have been my challenge  since the moment I started teaching foreign students.I never expected that I would spend this long.Being with my fellow ESL teachers is a fun and an exciting one for me.

During our breaks we talk about how well our students do with their homework, exercises and exams. As our students excel we feel that we have done our part as teachers. We are all proud whenever we see that our students are learning and applying what they have learned. At times we solicit ideas and strategies  to each other on how to help the slow-paced ones.

On the contrary, there are times that I feel bored and that my daily routine is monotonous. There comes a time that I want to try a new job in a new place with new colligues. This drive is very strong if I have an unpleasant class hour. I start thinking about quitting then! What keeps me holding in this kind of job is the personal development that I gain as I continue to teach them. Moreover, I like the working environment where I’m currently in.Furthermore, my smart and good students convince me to stay and keep my spirit in teaching high.

Teaching ESL

Today I had the toughest job of my work as a teacher. This afternoon I experienced the difficulty of teaching English as a Second Language or ESL. Language barrier is the top problem! I almost got a headache. I want my students to learn our borrowed language for them to live their life more comfortable since they’re staying in the country because of their will to learn English and academics as well. While inside the classroom I was thinking on a new approach to use on the following day to make the learning more effective and easy for them. Enough time, dedication and participation are needed if a student is willing to learn and speak good English. With my experience today I’m somehow happy because my students are very much eager to learn. I can see it. They tried to absorb everything. I understand that they can’t get everything that we had taken up but the point that they listen and participate is a good thing to keep me going and help them to step for the next level of learning.
