Police as Teachers?

Posted on July 10th, 2008 in All about Education by jazzie || No Comment

The conflict between the government soldiers and NPA’s is still not over. Killings still happen. Kidnapping still occurs. Didn’t we realize that the most affected in this setting are the civilians ? These poor people are living peacefully with their families and yet they are threatened by bombings and unpredicted wars! Thus, affecting the education of most of the kids living in near the war zones.

These events shook the hearts of our soldiers and education officers. An extended program of Department of Education or DepEd together with Philippine National Police or PNP was launched. The project is called ” Police Ko, Titser Ko“- ” I’m a police, a teacher as well”. This is to allow the Filipino soldiers to teach some points in academic lessons. The target are the schools located in upland areas or the place where the people are affected with the growing misunderstanding between AFP and NPA- New People’s Army.

Our policemen will not just fight against criminalities but will also become an instrument to continue the learning of the children in affected areas. Since there’s scarcity in the number of teachers needed, our brave policemen will be the substitutes. They’ll partially put their armaments aside and start holding a chalk and stick.

A large number of Education graduates who entered in PNP gave the bright idea to make use of their knowledge while in service. They’ll be teaching in writing, reading and arithmetic.

I’m proud knowing about this idea that DepEd and PNP had came out. Great job!!!

This morning I saw a very interesting topic that was featured in a morning show. The said segment talked about the ROCKed or Rock Education. I guess this is a combination of Rock Music and Education. ROCKed is an organization which serves as an alternative way of teaching the young ones and teenagers. They can participate in national issues through expressing their thoughts with the help of music. They can create lyrics that contains their stands. It is very apparent that teens love the rock ‘n roll so its a perfect one for them. They love music plus they can participate in latest issues in a nice and safe way.

Social Cognition

Culture has something to do with child’s learning. The kind of culture he has or the family environment that he used to live have impacts with his acquisition of knowledge. This is according to Vygotsky.

Culture teaches children both what to think and how to think. Socially we live and interact with the people around us. A child learns from his experiences that he get from his environment. At first he may not be doing 100% of his decisions but as he grows older he’ll have his right time to make her own choices in life.Zone of proximal development is a term use to identify the difference that exists between what a child can do on her own and what a child can do with help.

As a whole social interaction has a significant role in child’s intellectual development. Since this is very true educators must think on rich task emphasizing social interaction. Isolation should not be done. Teachers must apply activities that a child can do and not implementing those hard ones that are just done for the sake of having a unique lesson plan. . .learners are always the center in the learning process.

Constructivism is one of the theories of learning. It involves the process of adjusting our mental models to accommodate new experiences and learning. Through “reflection” we are able to have our own understanding in our environment and choose for the better option. With the kind of experiences we have we generate our own understanding and preferences. We make decisions basing

Importance of Transfer of learning

Posted on March 22nd, 2008 in Theories of Learning by jazzie || No Comment

I already differentiated near and far transfers of learning. Now let me tell you how important it is for a learner.

As I had said in my olders posts, transfer of learning is the application of skills and knowledge learned in one area being applied to another area. In other words, a learner or a child is able to undergo such transfer if he’s able to do a task successfully with the help of his stored knowledge and ideas learned.

The importance of these transfers is
