Teaching is an Art

A month ago I had an unpleasant experience at school. It was really awful and it needed a genuine strength to keep me hanging. One of my students got to my nerve.I could see how confused was he because he wasn’t listening to me.Every time I talk he starts talking as well. I don’t know if he recognizes the word “listen”. I gave him the freedom to ask me anything with regards to our lessons but what pissed me off is he reads in advance! I was still discussing the first part and he was already thinking about the latter! As a result, he couldn’t fully understand our lesson. Thus, leading himself to confusion and end up getting much stress daily. That’s what he complains everyday.

I don’t want my students to have a hard time in dealing with our lessons. That’s why I teach them the easier and more precise way to get rid of such pain;mentally or physically.Every time I have this kind of situation I come to think about the kind of profession that I currently practice.

Why did I take this course? Do I really love the nature of my job? Is teaching the perfect career for me to sustain? These are the usual questions that bother me.

I do self-healing instead and take these bad times as my challenges to take as a mentor.People differ. So are their pace in learning.I can’t expect  my students to have the same level like they’re all smart.I just think that they’re here to mold me as a teacher.

Teaching is an art. It requires  teacher’s unique and immeasurable strategies in order to reach the learning goals. It greatly depends on us on how good we are in dealing with these kind of classroom problems. Some students claim that they’re intelligent and equipped but the fact is they’re not. Moreover, proper approach is a great tool to relieve such problems.

Teacher’s ability to achieve the set aims despite of the inadequacy of resources and suchlike allows teaching to be coined as a form of an art.

People can teach anybody but not all can do so effectively.

Nursing vs Teaching

In the country, there’s a big percentage of students who would want to become nurses. In fact, year after year the enrolees in this course continues to rise up.Due to the fact that getting medical courses specifically nursing can give them an opportunity to live and work abroad Filipino families are embracing it. Though there are certain countries around the world who are not accepting Pinoy nurses in their hospitals many are still  hopeful.

The issue about Filipino doctors’ competency in Desperate Housewives made a loud noise in the Philippines. Many of our fellows reacted to it.Well, it’s a fact that technologically speaking we are not that competitive. However, stepping on  our dignity and generalizing the capabilities of our medical practitioners  is hitting below the belt for us.

I’ve got cousins belonging in this course but in my own family we don’t have one.My sister and I are licensed teachers. She’s in secondary and Math field though. I love teaching better than taking care of sick people.I should be the one to be taken cared of!jajajajajaja. Moreover, I feel that this is what I love to do.It feels good when you’re an instrument for young children to mold their personality and brighten their  future.Furthermore, teaching makes me feel responsible as a citizen in my native land.

I value education and teaching is my life.

Private or Public School?

Where shall I go? I’m currently employed in a private learning institution and I’m loving my job. My students and the fact that I myself is learning as well hold myself to stay in an English Academy where I’m in.In addition, I love working with my co-teachers.I don’t have attitude problem with them unlike to the previous working place where I formerly belong.I can survive with my work load.I can’t sustain teachers’ undesirable character though! They’re teachers in the first place but they aren’t acting like one! I first left the school and my friends submitted their resignation letters a week after I left.

Many people who are aware that I’m an educator ALWAYS ask me if I have plans in getting into public schools.I do have plans but not for now. They want me to get ranked by the Department of Education in Region XI but I’m still busy with my classes.

I had just finished talking with my church mate. She asked me if I’m willing to take an entrance exam for an elementary school.Perhaps the school is still looking for additional teachers for the next school year.Well, I’m taking it. I want to have a regular job and it’s possible for me to enter a public school.I’m already  a license teacher and they motivated me to make use of that permission.

I’ve come to think about the students in public schools .They deserve to have  good teachers too.And my friends who are really good at teaching strategies are employed in private schools or companies which are not related to Education. Moreover, some of the best teachers are forced to work abroad in exchange of the good pay they’re getting which is more than enough to feed their family. For this reason, students are deprived from their chance to have quality teachers.

I had a serious talk with our head teacher once.I’d say that she’s really an effective one. Most of the students studying with us love her much. She shared to me that she wants to offer her service to the public for the benefit of Filipino children. Her goal is to make every Filipino learner become competitive in all subject areas. However, there’s a relevant thing that holds her back just like me.

This thing is like good pay and personal development vs career and nationalism.

The Art of Teaching

Posted on March 19th, 2008 in Qoutes for Educators by jazzie || No Comment

” The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards”- Anatole France

Primarily teaching should be the means of opening the minds of children for their desire to know. Normally young minds are inquisitve. They never stop asking questions to adult until they are satisfied with it. The role of educator is to arouse more their curiosity and answering it fully afterwards. The teacher should be careful in answering the querries of a child. An adult may not know but all the things that are told to children are all true to them. If an adult tell a lie, that lie will continue to be a lie. That will only change if they got new answers and found out what’s really true.Like for instance, if a child ask why the sea is blue and he’s answered that it’s because the seawater is blue, that idea will stay in him. When he/she reach elementary, his/her Science teacher might explained why is that so. By then, that wrong perception is now changed into a right one.

Teachers and educators should be reminded that the questions asked by the learners should not be in a sarcastic way when answered. That an educator should not emphasize that he/she already learned million things compared to his/herlearners. Moreover, learners must gain satisfaction with their questions. If a teacher doesn’t know about a certain question, he should be honest to himself and to everybody. Explain to the child clearly and plainly. Have the talent to make them understand things better.
